Fabio Vacchi Fabio Vacchi had his debut in 1975 at the Venice Biennale. His works have been performed in leading venues in Italy and abroad, conducted by such as Abbado, Muti, Metha, Chung, Fischer, Harding, Marriner and Berio. He has written opera, symphonic and chamber music and music for films. Among his compositions: an opera, La station thermale (1993; Opéra de Lyon, Opéra Comique, Teatro alla Scala); Briefe Büchners (commissioned by C. Abbado for the Cicli Berlinesi, 1998); Dai calanchi di Sabbiuno, orchestration of the original chamber music, requested by Claudio Abbado (1997), and performed more than a hundred times around the world; Diario dello sdegno, commissioned by the Filarmonica della Scala and conducted on his international tours by Riccardo Muti, Terra comune, conducted by Myung-Whun Chung for the inauguration of the Nuovo Auditorium di Roma (2002). Another opera, Teneke will be stages at La Scala in 2007. The symphonic pieces, Tre veglie (2000) and Giusta armonia (performed by the Wiener Philharmoniker conducted by R.Muti in 2006) are commissions from the Salzburger Festspiele. Ouverture Lirica was conducted by Zubin Mehta in the concert celebrating his 70th birthday. Awards: Koussewitzky Prize in composition (1974); 1st price in the Gaudeamus competition, Holland (1976); David di Donatello 2002 for the soundtrack for E. Olmi’s Il mestiere delle armi; Lully Award 2002 for best new composition performed in the United States (Quartet no. 3, commissioned by the Tokyo Quartet; Premio Abbiati della critica italiana for best new work for 2003 for the opera, Il letto della storia; Premio Colonna Sonora dell’Ente Naz. Spettacolo for P.Chéreau’s Gabrielle. He is a member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. |
