Federico Mondelci,
saxophone After gaining a first-class diploma in saxophone from the Conservatorio di Pesaro, he studied song, composition and conduction, gaining a further diploma form the Conservatoire Supérieure de Bordeaux. He has played as soloist throughout the world with leading orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestra of La Scala with Ozawa. At the World Saxophone Festival, he has represented Italy in Germany, Japan, Spain and Italy. Since his performance at the Festival of Saint Petersburg, he collaborates with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, with which he has recorded Piazzola’s Tangos. Deeply interested in contemporary music, he has performed the première of Yoshimatsu’s Cyberbird for saxophone, piano and orchestra with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Brabbins in Manchester, and the two concertos for saxophone and orchestras, which won awards at the Concorso Internazionale di Composizione of 2nd August in Bologna, with the Toscanini orchestra of Parma. He has recorded a number of CDs, including the complete works for saxophone and piano by Koechlin. Mondelci works not only as a soloist, but also as conductor, with a repertoire ranging from classical and Romantic symphonic music to opera and 20th-century literature. He has conducted soloists such as Ilya Grubert, Michael Nyman, Kathryn Stott, Pavel Vernikov, Massimo Mercelli, Francesco Manara and Luisa Castellani in Italy and the United States, and conducted concerts in Germany, France, Portugal and Russia. He has worked with the Orchestra del Teatro Bellini of Catania, the Orchestra Haydn of Bolzano and the Youth Orchestra of the Marinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, as well as the Orchestra Sinfonica di San Remo, and the Orchestra Sinfonica del Lazio, which he conducted at the new Auditorium di Roma. He has conducted opera productions by various 18th-century Italian composers in international festivals, including the ‘St. Petersburg Music Festival’ (2001 and 2002 editions). His 2005-2006 season includes concerts with the Orchestra del Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, the New Zealand Symphonic Orchestra and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. |
