Simonide Braconi,
viola Roman by birth, he undertook his musical studies under the guidance of internationally-renowned soloists: B. Giuranna, Y. Bashmet and K. Kashkashian. He obtained his diploma with a mention d’honneur and top marks from the Conservatorio di Roma and the Hochschüle in Freiburg. After winning various awards in international contests for soloists, in 1994 Riccardo Muti chose him as first viola for the orchestra of La Scala. As soloist, he has recorded with numerous specialised labels. He has been invited to hold courses and concerts at important institutions – such as the Tibor Varga in Sion, Switzerland – and often also performs in concerts as a duo with his brother Monaldo, pianist, whilst with other leading elements of the Scala orchestra he has recently formed the Quartetto d'Archi della Scala. He has also held important courses in such institutions as Bergamo, and the Estate Musicale di Portogruaro, of which he is a permanent guest, and he is a teacher at the Accademia Internazionale "L. Perosi" of Biella and the Accademia della Filarmonica della Scala. Among his most recent works as soloist, one of the most significant was the June performance of the Kammermusik N. 5 by P. Hindemith with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala conducted by W. Sawallisch. He plays a G. Gagliano viola of 1800. |
